Tips on saving energy when doing Laundry
Almost 90% of the energy consumed by your washing machine is used simply to heat water. Only 10% is used to run the motor. Here are some tips on how to save money and the environment while still getting your clothes clean.

  • Use cold water : Cold-water washing keeps colours bright and reduces wrinkling. It is also a perfectly efficient way to clean most clothes!

  • Size of loads : Running full loads can be a good way to save electricity and water as most machines do not have advanced proportionality sensors. Technologies like Prosence (AEG), SensiCare Electrolux) and Auto Sense (Zanussi) are among the most accurate technology on the market for ensuring that electricity and water are scaled up or down based on the load.
Try it out for yourself – use lower temperature cycles for a week and compare the energy consumption with a normal week using the Laundry Life app. Remember to compare the same number of washes!

Good luck and go green !

PS. Did you know that Energy Star-certified washing machines use 15 gallons of water per load, compared to 23 gallons for a standard machine? And that front-loading machines use two-thirds less water than top-loaders, reducing your total water and heating costs.
